Ever the trend spotter, I do love a trend, trend spotting is so much easier due to the power of Instagram and Pinterest.
The online space gives a strong indication of a trend, before its seen in stores. Chevron started in 2009, and there is still retailers bringing it out now. Maybe it's the new classic? The Boho gypsy trend is stronger now than it was in the early 90's. And stripes? They never go out.
The last time I remember the Aztec being as popular was the Summer of 1992-93, I was in the States on a school trip. We took a day trip to Tijuana Mexico, and for a bunch of 16 + 17 year old's the city made quite the impression. I don't think I was prepared for the young street kids begging on the street. We were warned not to make eye contact or to stop and speak with them. Our hearts broke, I think we all wanted to give them a cuddle and everything we had. Fairly confronting for a bunch of private school kids from Adelaide.
We shopped up a storm, in a mall type market. I bought a knock off Gucci Watch, a faux Chanel purse and a green, pink and white Aztec rug. Such a strange purchase for a 17 year old, but I loved interiors even back then, and apparently I had to have it. Not sure how I managed to carry it around in my suitcase for the rest of the trip, clearly I was a determined kid. I need to track that rug down, I think it is still upstairs at my parent's pub.
The Aztec print is strong, but my favourite look is the classic black and white. I can imagine the black and white print will be around for a little longer than the multi colour styles. With a bold print like Aztec I would stay on the budget level. Bold trends seem to have a shorter window than a more classic style. Fortunately, there are a plethora or budget Aztec style finds. How are you embracing the Aztec trend, is it one for you?
