Hippy Oils

I was first 13 or 14 when I started using essential oils. I remember Mum having oils in the house before that. Rose, Lavender, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree. I remember potpourri being revived with essential oils, it was the late 1980's. We had an oil heater in our living room, and a bowl of water, with a few drops of lemon essential oil would put a little moisture back into the air.

Large bottles or supermarket bought eucalyptus, lavender and teatree essential oil sat in our laundry, and a splash was often added to a wash. Metho, boiling hot water and eucalyptus oil was a favourite the the cork tile floors. For Mum and my asthmatic brother, Eucalyptus "essential oil" would be used in a bowl of steaming hot water for inhalations. I use inverted commas because it was probably a supermarket purchase, otherwise known as a chemical shit storm.

It was about this time I'd borrow aromatherapy and essential oil books from the library. I'd tear out magazine and newspaper articles about essential oils. I'm sure there was even an aromatherapy magazine, i kept every issue in a folders. I've always been a collector of all the things!

I'm not sure when it happened, my interest waned in adult years. Probably around the time the desire for partying and drinking too much took over. I always had Supermarket bought lavender and eucalyptus for the laundry. But that was the extent of my essential oil use. That was then, fortunately the past few years have been very different.

It was 2014 when I noticed more essential oil talk on social. I took little notice, I probably did a little arrogant side eye action. You see I knew essential oils, I'd been using them for as long as I could remember. Essential oils have been around for thousands of years, and these people are just discovering them now? What a fool I was.

And so early 2015 I noticed someone I respected and admired talking about essential oils, so I took a little more notice. Within a month a friend announced she had joined the oily way, and put a sample in my hand. That was it. I realised what I thought were essential oils, was not close to the purity of these essential oils. I placed an order, already deciding to add essential oils to our business.

If you follow me on social you will know I've been sharing essential oils. This is the first time I've blogged about it. And I'm not sure why it took me so long.

I use hippy rocks (crystals), essential oils and a fuck off positive attitude right alongside medication. Yup, that's right I still use antidepressants to manage major, chronic depression. What I have not been using is the over the counter stuff to manage everyday health concerns. And I'm happy, I've lost weight, and I still have weight to lose and I'm healthy as fuck!

Join me for an online class, no video, just images to run through. You'll have three days to get through the content. There are oils to be won, and you will be inspired and empowered to manage your emotions with beautiful plant medicine.

I've been bouncing around the blogging space and on social blogging since 2007. You may have seen me in my role as a graphic designer and creative director at Notable Imprint, the business I created with my husband. I've blogged at Hello Fleurieu, How Two Thrive with my former biz partner {and still firm friend, Amie Turner} and briefly on Mrs Notable. And now you'll find me here, blogging my heart out, sharing all I love at LouisaG. We grow, we change and evolve, this new space reflects the real me, the me that is stronger for my past, and excited about the future. I have a bright future, one I never imagined because I've made lots of small changes, and these small positive changes have made a big impact on my life.
